Girls Golf Wins CHSL Sectional, Football Secures Homecoming Victory

𝗔𝗡𝗡 𝗔𝗥𝗕𝗢𝗥, 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵. – Father Gabriel Richard Athletics opened October with another strong week of competition, highlighted by Girls Golf claiming a CHSL Sectional title, Football earning a 62-18 Homecoming victory and Girls Cross Country placing first in its division at the Marauder XC Invitational. 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 The FGR Girls Cross Country team competed in the Marauder XC Invitational at Lake Erie Metropark on Saturday (Oct. 3), placing first out of 15 teams in its division. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗱𝗸𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗸𝗶 ’𝟮𝟳 led the Irish with a first-place individual finish, while 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 ’𝟯𝟬 followed in second. 𝗔𝘃𝗮 𝗣𝗳𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗵 ’𝟮𝟳 placed 12th, 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵 ’𝟮𝟳 finished 20th and 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗮 ’𝟮𝟵 took 22nd to round out FGR’s scoring five. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗱 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻 ’𝟮𝟵 also earned a medal with a 24th-place finish. The Boys team competed in the 2026 Legends XC Invitational in Pinckney and placed fourth. 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝘂𝗵𝗻 ’𝟮𝟴, 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗼𝘇𝗮 ’𝟮𝟳 and 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘄𝗮 ’𝟮𝟵 led the Irish. 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 FGR fell to Bloomfield Hills Marian in the CHSL Semifinals on Tuesday (Sept. 29). In its second match of the week, the Irish played Chelsea High School to a 1-1 draw at home on Thursday (Oct. 1). Coming up, FGR will travel to face Grand Blanc on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at 7 pm. Next Monday (Oct. 12), the Irish will head to Dexter for a 7 pm match. 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 In its annual Homecoming game, FGR Football picked up a convincing 62-18 victory over Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook on Friday night (Oct. 2) at Rynearson Stadium. The night also honored the 50th anniversary of the undefeated 1976 St. Thomas Football Team. Up next, the Irish will travel to Detroit to face Loyola High School on Friday (Oct. 9). Kickoff is slated for 7 pm. 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗳 FGR claimed a CHSL Sectional title at the CHSL Championship on Monday (Sept. 28) at Detroit Golf Club. The following day (Sept. 29), the Irish placed second in the Ann Arbor City Tournament at Barton Hills Country Club. 𝗥𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗢’𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗮 ’𝟯𝟬 finished fourth individually. FGR closed out the week Wednesday (Sept. 30), falling to Livonia Churchill at Whispering Willows. Tomorrow (Oct. 6), the Irish will compete in the MHSAA Regionals at Westshore Country Club in Grosse Ile. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 am. 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗿 Boys Soccer went 1-1 over the last week, earning a 4-0 home victory over Jackson Lumen Christi on Tuesday (Sept. 29) before falling 6-0 to University Liggett in Grosse Pointe Woods on Thursday (Oct. 1). The two matches concluded CHSL Intersectional 1 division play for the Irish. FGR finished second in the division with a 5-3-2 record. Boys Soccer received the No. 2 seed for its MHSAA District assignment, with district matchups to be announced. Tonight (Oct. 5), the Irish will host Clarkston Everest Collegiate for Senior Day. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm. To close out the regular season, FGR will travel to Monroe to face St. Mary Catholic Central on Monday (Oct. 12) at 4:30 pm. 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 Although FGR did not compete last week, Girls Swim and Dive climbed three spots in the statewide Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (MISCA) rankings, moving from ninth to sixth. On Saturday (Oct. 10), the Irish will compete in the annual MISCA meet at Oakland University. The midseason championship gives teams from across all divisions an opportunity to compete against one another. 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀 Boys Tennis will return to action Wednesday (Oct. 7) for a tournament at Grosse Ile Township High School. Competition is scheduled to begin at 8 am. 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 Girls Volleyball defeated Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-13) on Tuesday (Sept. 29), clinching a spot in the Catholic League Semifinals. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝘆𝗻𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁 ’𝟮𝟵 paced the Irish with 10 kills and 11 digs, while 𝗠𝗶𝗮 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿 ’𝟯𝟬 added nine kills. 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗰𝗔𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲 ’𝟮𝟵 totaled seven kills and two blocks, while 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗗𝘆𝗲𝗿 ’𝟮𝟳 served four aces and recorded four kills. 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗢𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 ’𝟯𝟬 dished out 33 assists to go along with one kill and one block. With a 25-3-2 overall record and an honorable mention ranking in Division 2, FGR is set to face Jackson Lumen Christi in the CHSL Semifinals on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at 5 pm at Dearborn Divine Child.
