ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Father Gabriel Richard Athletics turned in another strong week of fall competition, highlighted by a pair of sweeps from Girls Volleyball, another match-play victory for undefeated Girls Golf and top-four finishes from both Cross Country teams. Cross Country Both squads competed in the 58th Annual Holly-Duane Raffin Festival of Races on Saturday (Sept. 19). The FGR Girls Cross Country team placed third out of 14 teams. Mary Hickey ’30, Rose Buonerba ’27, Ava Pfaffenbach ’27 and Bridget Fidkowski ’27 led the squad with medal-winning runs. Hickey ran a sub-20-minute time, placing eighth overall. The Boys team placed fourth and had three medal winners. Benjamin Kuhn ’28 placed 10th, Dominic Cai ’30 finished 23rd and John Fedewa ’29 placed 27th. Up next, both teams will compete in the 2026 Legends XC Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 3). Girls Field Hockey On Monday (Sept. 14), Girls Field Hockey earned a 3-1 road win against Pinckney High School, moving its record to 6-1 on the season. Today (Sept. 21), the Irish will travel to Bloomfield Hills for a 7 pm match against Marian High School. On Thursday (Sept. 24), the team will host University Liggett at 4:30 pm. Football Football suffered its first loss of the season on the road against Jackson Lumen Christi on Friday (Sept. 18). The Irish will look to bounce back this Friday (Sept. 25) when FGR hosts rival Dearborn Divine Child at 4 pm. Girls Golf Girls Golf earned a 186-207 win against Dearborn Divine Child at Huron Hills on Thursday (Sept. 17), shooting its lowest score in match play this season. The win improved the Irish to 5-0 in match play. The Irish will face Divine Child at Dearborn Country Club today (Sept. 21) at 3:30 pm. On Wednesday (Sept. 23), the team will host Ann Arbor Greenhills at Huron Hills starting at 3:30 pm. Finally, on Monday (Sept. 28), Girls Golf will compete in the CHSL Championship at Detroit Golf Club. The championship tournament is set to begin at 9 am. Boys Soccer Boys Soccer went 2-1 over the last week. FGR picked up a 2-1 win against the East Michigan Panthers to start the week on Monday (Sept. 14). The following day (Sept. 15), the team fell to Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett at home before bouncing back with a 5-0 victory over Cabrini High School in Allen Park, picking up its second win against Cabrini this season. The Irish are scheduled to play three games in the upcoming week. First, the team will look to split the season series against Detroit Cristo Rey at home on Tuesday (Sept. 22), with the match set to start at 5:30 pm. FGR will then play Riverview Gabriel Richard twice in three days, with both matches on the road. The first is set for Thursday (Sept. 24) at 6 pm, followed by a second match on Saturday (Sept. 26) at 11 am. Girls Swim and Dive The Girls Swim and Dive team competed in the Tiger Invite at Belleville High School on Saturday (Sept. 19). The 200-medley relay team of Lucy Tribble ’29, Ellie Robison ’29, Cece Adelman ’30 and Elizabeth O’Neil ’29 came within two seconds of the school record set at last year’s state meet. The Irish had two individual first-place finishes during the meet. Tribble placed first in the 100 back and finished second in the 200 IM. Adelman finished first in the 100 fly and dropped more than eight seconds from her personal best in the 200 IM, finishing third. She also earned her first state cuts in both events. O’Neil earned state cuts in the 200 free and 100 free, Julia Fidkowski ’29 earned a cut in the 200 free, Robison made the cut in the 500 free and Tribble captured a state cut in the 50 free. Prior to the Tiger Invite, O’Neil was nominated for MLive’s Athlete of the Week for Ann Arbor-area athletes. Up next, the Irish will travel to Farmington Hills Mercy for a meet on Tuesday (Sept. 22). Then, on Thursday (Sept. 24), the team will compete against Saline High School. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 6 pm. Boys Tennis FGR Boys Tennis lost on the road against Dearborn Divine Child, 5-3, on Thursday (Sept. 17). Up next for the Irish is a match at Notre Dame Prep in Pontiac tomorrow (Sept. 22) at 5 pm. On Saturday (Sept. 26), FGR will play in the CHSL Championship at 9 am. To close out the regular season, Boys Tennis will host Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at 4 pm. Girls Volleyball FGR Girls Volleyball earned two wins last week, both in straight sets, to improve its record to 16-3-2. First, on Tuesday (Sept. 15), the Irish defeated Toledo Central Catholic at home in three sets (25-16, 25-7, 25-13). Janie Osness ’30 recorded 18 assists in the match, while Mia Keefer ’30 added eight kills. Courtney Dyer ’27 had five kills and served four aces, while Ann Marie McAuliffe ’29 recorded three blocks for the Irish. Then, on Thursday (Sept. 17), FGR completed another three-set sweep (25-5, 25-9, 25-11) against Ypsilanti Arbor Prep. Kate Squashic ’28 had eight assists, Amber Wright ’29 led the Irish with six kills and Alison Oleszkowicz ’30 recorded six aces in FGR’s second sweep of the week. This week, Girls Volleyball will travel to Warren to face Regina High School at 6 pm on Tuesday (Sept. 22). On Thursday (Sept. 24), the Irish will host Wixom St. Catherine of Siena Academy at 6 pm.
