OCT 11, 2019 (4:15pm) – FARMINGTON, MI
SUMMARY – The Irish (D2W Conference 2-4-1, Overall 6-10-1) hit the road for their final regular season game of 2019 when they traveled to face Farmington United on a wet, rainy afternoon. FGR was coming off a 3-0 win over Plymouth-Canton on Wednesday. Farmington (3-9-1), meanwhile was looking to snap a five game losing streak.
The game conditions were a bit slick on the grass field and it showed in the play as FGR was not able to move at their normal pace. Though controlling the time of possession and field of play, the Irish chances were not materializing. Finally with just over thirteen minutes remaining in the half, Monica Grayson (jr) was able to push the ball over the goal line to give the Irish a 1-0 lead which held up until the break.
In the second half, the Irish were able to control much of the possession and get multiple shots on goal, but could not find the net to increase their lead. It took several strong defensive plays towards the end of the game against an equally determined Farmington squad to secure the 1-0 win.
The Irish will now carry their two game winning streak into the MHSFHA Division II State Playoffs when they travel to Pinckney for a “play-in” game on Wednesday Oct 16th at 6:30pm..
