Team/Player Skill Development Goals

FGR VOLLEYBALL DEVELOPMENTAL GOALS
  • FRESHMEN
    • End Freshmen Season With These Skills…
      • Serving
        • Serve overhand consistently
        • Working towards spot serving
      • Passing
        • Perfect free ball passes
        • Starting to pass free balls with hands
        • Serve receive consistent to target
        • Base to defense transitions
        • Staying low as a passer
        • Begin reading hitters
      • Setting
        • Consistent high sets
        • Be able to run a 6-2
        • Understand the 5-1
        • Start running middle quick sets (1’s)
      • Blocking
        • Know different blocking techniques (i.e. soft block vs. typical block) and which is best for you
        • Capable of blocking footwork
      • Hitting
        • Blocking to hitting transitions
        • Footwork, arm swing and timing should be mastered for high sets
        • Player should be reaching high, snapping, and hitting in the court consistently off of high sets
        • Down balls should have good form and be consistently in the court
        • Begin to run back row attacks
  • JUNIOR VARSITY
    • End Junior Varsity Season With These Skills (In Addition To What Was Achieved on Freshmen)…
      • Serving
        • Consistent spot serving
        • Begin working on jump serve
      • Passing
        • Taking free balls with hands
        • Begin lower passes to speed up offense (know how to adjust height of the passes and when to do so)
        • Consistently read hitters
        • Work on anticipation on defense
      • Setting
        • Add more quick sets (1’s, C’s and Slides should be consistent)
        • Begin learning 31’s and Shoot sets
        • Start running tandems
        • Start running free ball and Serve Receive plays designated by coach
      • Blocking
        • Consistent and correct blocking timing
      • Hitting
        • Back row attacks should be consistent
        • Quick attacks should be consistent
        • Hitters should be consistently hitting down and being able to place their hits (line, cross, hole, cut, etc.)
        • Be able to use the tip as a change up instead of as a problem solver (i.e. to fix a bad set)
  • VARSITY
    • End 1st Varsity Season With These Skills (In Addition To What Was Achieved on Freshmen and JV)…
      • Serving
        • Continue working on jump serve (if determined that this is an effective option for you)
        • Master both float and top spin serve options
      • Passing
        • Perfect free ball passes with your hands
        • Consistent low passes for fast offense
        • Consistent anticipation on defense
      • Setting
        • Consistent 31’s and Shoots
        • Consistent tandems
        • Continue running free ball and serve receive plays designated by coach
      • Blocking
        • Consistent penetration
        • Capable of reading setter and knowing where the set is going
      • Hitting
        • Capable of seeing the court and making appropriate decision on where to place the ball
    • End 2nd Varsity Season With These Skills (In Addition To What Was Achieved on Freshmen, JV, and 1st Varsity Season)…
      • Serving
        • Master jump serve (if determined that this is an effective option for you)
      • Passing
        • All around consistency
      • Setting
        • Consistently run any set
        • Consistently call and run any free ball and serve receive play and tandem
      • Hitting
        • Consistently find holes and place attacks there
        • Convert any set to a kill
